Animal Welfare & Our Standards

People rightly want to know how the meat on their table was reared, handled and prepared. We're a working farm before we're anything else, and after four generations at Spath we're proud to answer plainly.

Reared here, on our farm

Our animals are reared here at Spath, on the same land the family has farmed for four generations — reared slowly, fed properly and looked after from field to farm gate. Anything we don't rear ourselves comes from British farms we know personally, and never from further than it has to.

Slaughtered humanely

Every animal is stunned before slaughter, without exception. We use a small, trusted local abattoir that works to the highest British welfare standards, and short journeys from our own fields mean less stress for the animals.

Butchered by the family

Everything is cut, cured and prepared by our own butchers here at Spath Farm, Uttoxeter — the same way it's been done for four generations.

Common questions

Is any of your meat halal or kosher?
No. None of our meat is religiously slaughtered. All animals are stunned before slaughter in line with our welfare standards above.

Where does your meat come from?
From our own farm at Spath first and foremost, with anything else sourced from British farms we know personally.

Can I ask about a specific product?
Of course. Call the shop on 01889 568411 and we'll tell you exactly where it came from and how it was reared.
